This list provides you with the five best shows, what they’re about and why you should watch.
As I am not fluent in Spanish or Portuguese, this list only contains English subtitles for these countries. However, if there are any other languages that interest you please leave a comment below!

“Elite” is a show about Isabelle, who joins one of Mexico’s most prestigious private schools (or “Elites”), where she must now contend with her male classmates vying to be Supreme Ruler while also reclaiming her place among them after being dishonored by an unexpected event from their past. On top of this, she has to pay off her sister’s debt and find new love in order to avoid losing everything. The screenplay was written by Pedro Peirano and Adrian Noble Gomez alongside series creator José Luis Sánchez Rosas. Santiago Pérez Parra directed all episodes with production beginning in Q331A
“Cable Girls” follows four young women who work at a cable company in Madrid. The series begins during the time of General Franco’s dictatorship and ends on Spain’s return to democracy, which coincides with the installation of new technology that brings about social changes as well.
The show is set in Miami and tells the story of Cuban-American sisters Lenny (Lena Cardenas) and Emma Delgado (Emily Rios), members of two different rival drug cartels living under one roof, along with their mother Magda (Tony Award winner Ana Villafañe).
This Colombian soap opera chronicles five generations of wealthy Bogotá families over 100 years, from 1902 to present day Colombia. According to Netflix, it is “the first Spanish-language series to be distributed internationally by Netflix, and the most expensive television production in Colombian history.”
“Elite” follows three ambitious young people who are determined to make their mark on a world that values status over everything else. The show unfolds at an exclusive upper class school called Las Encinas where students come from diverse backgrounds but share one thing: they’re all going for the same goal – Elite Class of 2025.
This telenovela tells the story of Santiago Mendoza (Mateus Solano), owner of iconic Tailandia Resort & Spa, his wife Leonor de la Vega (Ana Brenda Contreras) and her best friend Daniela Santamaría (Thelma Madrigal).

As they explore the unfamiliar city together, each boy battles personal problems which threaten to end all their fun. Can these two best buds find common ground? This emotional coming-of-age story captures curiosity like no other.
In this riveting series, Luis Miguel (Juan Pablo Gil) is a successful TV star and telenovela writer who’s always surrounded by beautiful women. – Narcos, which tells the story of Pablo Escobar and Colombia’s cocaine industry.
– El Chapo, about Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman who was arrested in 2014 after a decade as one of Mexico’s most powerful criminals.
– Ingobernable is set in modern day Mexico and follows Emilia Urquiza (Marina de Tavira), a wife to an elected president with wide domestic support but little international backing (“La Inocente” – The Innocent). This show has some amazing reviews! We can’t wait for it to come out this year.
– Club De Cuervos is all about soccer club CD Cuervos, the most popular team in Mexico. It is a story about family rivalry and soccer.
– The Crown is set against the backdrop of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign from her first days as 25 year old Princess Elizabeth to today where she stands on the cusp of becoming England’s longest-serving monarch. And if you’re into British TV shows like Downton Abbey or Downtown Abbey then this show will be up your alley!
Narcos: A great Netflix original that centers around Pablo Escobar (who was killed) and Colombia’s cocaine industry. There are only two seasons so far but there could potentially be more episodes coming out soon? I’m not sure how many people watched it but my friend tells me it’s great.
– The show is set in a small town where the battle between two drug lords, one of whom sells drugs to keep people happy and have his life enriched while the other lord takes revenge on everybody for all he has lost by doing just that: taking lives away from those who are not innocent like him.

It documents his involvement with American and Spanish authorities, as well as how he managed to evade law enforcement before eventually being shot dead by police officers after a rooftop chase. The show has won many prestigious awards including an Emmy for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role Ingobernable-This telenovela is set amid political upheaval against Mexican President Emiliano Zapata who was forced into exile following accusations that he had been killed during a coup d’état.
