One of the more interesting aspects of bike culture is how bikes are named. There’s always a story behind it, and there’s something about knowing that we’re all in this together as humans on Earth (and not just cyclists) that makes these stories so much cooler.
Here are some ideas for naming your bicycle:
Energizer Bunny – This one goes out to my friend who had her bike stolen after work at an event she was volunteering with another club member. They were both really bummed because they wanted to ride their bikes home from the venue but alas! It wasn’t meant to be.. So we renamed our bikes The Energizer Bunnies and got matching tattoos 🙂
The California Roll – I love sushi, and I love riding my bike. So when a friend gave me this idea it was an instant yes!
Toucan Sam – My first name starts with S so Toucan is just perfect for me. Plus he’s the spokesbird of Kelloggs’ Froot Loops cereal- which means that every time I pass by someone on their morning run they see “Froot Loops” written in bright colors on my bike frame 🙂
Nacho Libre – This one came up as a joke but we all agreed to go ahead and do it because who doesn’t want to say hello to Nacho Libre? It’s like waving hi to your favorite Mexican wrestler.. Hiya Nahco Librre!
The Doctor – I’m a huge fan of the TV show and this bike name is perfect for my love of all things medical. Plus, it’s also an homage to one of our favorite family members who recently passed away..the original Doctor D
Das Radler- A long time ago when we were biking around Europe on their amazing flat roads with countless biergartens at every turn, we would often order radlers (a beer mixed with lemonade) which was very refreshing in that heat! So one day someone said “wow you’d drink anything!” And then Das Radler just stuck 🙂
Handlebars – My sister always wants me to do her hair so she suggested Handlebars because “it looks like you’re riding with handlebars!” I used to be embarrassed but now it’s one of my favorite names!
Bambi – This is the name that we gave our first tandem bike and it just stuck. Now every time we see a cute deer in the woods, Bambi pops into mind 🙂
Mathilda- When I was little, there was this girl at school who would always beat me on math tests so Mathilda seemed fitting. Plus she’s one of those girls who wears her hair up which also reminds me of bikes since they have gears.. So yeah, all around perfect for a racing/mountain biking kind of gal 😉
Mocha Time – Sometimes when your coffee gets cold before you’re done drinking it, you can add some hot water to bring the temp back up. Kind of like when your brakes give out and then someone comes along and lends a hand in fixing them
Flamingo – My husband is obsessed with flamingos so we named our bikes Flamingo Airlines because they are pink! It’s not really about riding bikes but he loves flamingos too much let me name anything else 😉
Sunset – I always wanted something as different from my sister’s bike names as possible so Sunset seemed appropriate since she loved sunsets more than any other kind of sunset anyways. Plus her favorite color was red which also matches perfectly!`
Daffodil- All daffodils have pedals on them and they’re so beautiful!
The Oregon Trail – The bike is a vintage Schwinn as well which I thought was perfect since the old-timey style matches all of my other furniture in my living room. Plus, this blog post might not be very helpful but it’s still really fun to read and learn about new things 🙂
Lilac – When our two boys were born we got them baby bikes with their names on the front. One had Lilac flowers that matched his name while the other one had daisy flowers because he loved playing outside with mommy more than anything else!
Aurora Borealis – There are some seriously amazing colors happening in nature right now including an Aurora Borealis show going on right over the city lights. I was out with my best friend just enjoying how beautiful everything looks and we thought it would make for a perfect bike name!
Shooting Star – It’s been too long since you’ve seen me last so now that you’re here, let’s go get on our bikes and ride off into the sunset together. Like all good things this blog post will have to come to an end soon but before we say goodbye there are still some more fun bike names left in us!
Sea Turtle – The weather is finally starting to cool down which means I’ll be able to start riding my beach cruiser again while wearing shorts or skirts. Plus, sea turtles always seem really happy even though they never manage to get anywhere. Isn’t that the perfect analogy for a bike?
Sunset – It’s been too long since you’ve seen me last so now that you’re here, let’s go get on our bikes and ride off into the sunset together. Like all good things this blog post will have to come to an end soon but before we say goodbye there are still some more fun bike names left in us!
