I feel like I’ve been living in a book for years. I may have even been a reader once I was 13, but I only really started reading books professionally in college. I can’t say I’ve read any that are like a real book, but I do know I’ve been reading. I’m sure there are many more books I’ve been reading, which is a good thing.
At least to me, books are like a light that illuminates your life. When you close your eyes, you see a little of what the author intended when they wrote the words.

I know Ive been spending a lot of time reading in the bookstore lately, but it makes me feel that I really should put more effort into reading books, or at least reading more. Because when youre in a book, you get a sense of its inner-ness. You get a sense of its structure, its themes, its meaning. You get to see inside the book, and you get to know it. It doesn’t matter if you are an avid reader or not.
It’s important to remember that a book is more than just the words on the pages. It is an expression of the writer’s own thoughts and feelings. And a book is more than a book. If youre a writer, you must be constantly aware of how the words on your page make you feel. That awareness is the only way you will be able to write the book you want to read.
I think that the best way to learn to write is to start with the words themselves. I have always felt that the words on your page can be the most powerful of your writing. But you must be willing to learn how to be the writer you want to be. If you have a book with a lot of words, you need to be willing to learn how to cut the words youre not using and rewrite them.
That’s the power of words. You can’t really use them to write a book unless you learn to cut the words you don’t want to write. And that’s a lot of work.
