We use this network primarily as a way to get the word out about free community technology classes. The folks who run the network are very active in the community. I’ve been able to connect with others who share my passion for technology. I’ve done presentations with some of their classes. We’ve also put together some short educational videos on some of the topics we cover.
It’s an awesome concept. I am really looking forward to the classes that Ive been able to take these past few weeks in my classes. Ive heard from some folks who say that it’s not that far off that I can actually teach these classes to others without any costs.
Yes, that is the spirit of the project. We do have some ongoing costs and expenses. Most of the cost is covered by a few of our vendors. The actual classes are free, but the material is available for purchase as well. We can do the classes online or via Skype. We also have a lot of our classes streamed live so you can watch us and hear us talk about whatever topic we are discussing.
We don’t charge for the classes or the material, but we do charge a small fee for the live streaming. We’re about to launch our live streaming service so we are asking our vendors to cover all of our server costs.
I think this just shows how important technology is to us. We are the first company in the industry to offer our online classes for free. We also offer the live streams to our own viewers as well, so we can reach a larger number of people. When these technologies are free, people are more likely to use them.
