Let’s all stop being so self-conscious about our self-awareness. And let’s stop worrying about the future. Just because we might have been marketing our businesses for a million years doesn’t mean we can’t change our marketing for the next three hundred years.
The first marketing of the world was that we were going to be the first species to use a chemical that lets us get rid of our baldness. I think we were the first to use a chemical that lets us see our shadow and then we had an evolutionary breakthrough when we started using a chemical that lets us have our own shadow.
You see, the first time that we started marketing ourselves was around the year 1250 A.D. When we first started marketing ourselves, we were a bunch of fat guys with hairy bodies and we looked like Frankenstein’s monster. The next thing we have to do is get rid of our baldness.
In order to do that, we need our marketing products to be a little more subtle. It’s not enough for us to be advertising ourselves in large bold letters across billboards and in magazines and on TV. What we also need to do is to put something on our products that says, “Here’s how we are. You can also buy our products and be like us.
I mean, what the hell, we’ve been doing this for more than fifty years, so we should not have to start thinking about marketing in a vacuum. There are only so many things you can put on a product, and that product is something we should be proud of.
I don’t know if there is a single element of marketing that has not been copied, but I can tell you that a lot of people have been copying a lot of things. There can be a lot of copycats, and when there are, that can be a bit problematic. In an age of hyper-convergence, we are seeing an explosion in the ubiquity of products and services that are often similar.
The term marketer is a bit of a misnomer. A marketer is someone who is responsible for driving traffic to a website and then making sure that the traffic comes back. We usually don’t call people with a specific job title marketers.
Marketing is a field of study that deals with how to create, promote, and sell a product. What many people don’t realize is that the practice of marketing is a practice of marketing. There can be a lot of marketing in a single product, and a lot of marketing in the same product, period. As a matter of fact, the word marketing is a bit of a misnomer. Marketing is not just a physical practice, it’s also a mental process.
