It’s a great job and a great position to get into, but as someone who has been doing this for many years, I know that it’s not always as glamorous as it sounds. It takes a lot of work, and it requires a lot of experience. We also have a lot of marketing and PR people that we refer people to. We have a lot of people who have been doing this since the late ’80s or ’90s and are really good at what they do.
I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t know a whole lot about PR or advertising. I’ve been in this business for 8 years, and I know some of the basics of what it takes, but I’m not a business major nor a marketing major. I’m not going to lie, I’m not a good person to ask about marketing jobs because it sounds like I’m not good but I don’t know what I don’t know.
I’m glad that you asked because I’m going to be honest and say that I don’t have a huge amount of experience. What I do have is the ability to articulate, and the ability to make connections, and the inclination to see the big picture. And the good thing about being a web developer is that it’s easy to start with a small amount of experience. In fact, the more experience you have, the more you’re able to do.
I know what you mean because I work in marketing at a local company. I think that what we do, we make connections and we make connections so that eventually, we get to where we want to be.
