The market for marketing jobs in Kansas City is booming right now. I was recently able to interview a new candidate for a marketing manager position. We got the job because he was a recent graduate and had done internships in his hometown.

The only thing you should be worried about is your GPA. There are internships and jobs that are just going to pay you $10-$20/hr. You can take a class load as if it were a regular job and save yourself a ton of money. Even if you hate the work you’ll get a decent salary.
The best way to get your foot in the door with a startup is to find a company that you’re passionate about, and then convince them that you’ll make a good fit as an intern or a staff member. You want to find companies that you’re interested in, and that you can speak intelligently and enthusiastically about.
