I’ve always had this weird idea that it’s so much easier to pay myself first book than to get paid for it. Like, it’s like a shortcut to buying a house. I think it’s so much easier to get paid for something you want to do anyway. (I’ve been working on this lately.
But I disagree. Getting paid for something you want to do also involves a lot of work. And when you want to do something you want to do, you also want to give it your full attention. You want to be able to devote yourself to it without feeling like you have to spend every waking moment doing it.
I think this is true. I have been getting paid for writing a blog post for free recently because someone at the company has made me a coffee mug. I feel like I am not earning much from this, but I also feel like I have more time than I thought I had left.
In general, I think making your own money is a good thing. It’s a sign that you are really interested in what you are doing. It’s also a sign that you are doing something that doesn’t require you to put in a ton of time. If you are not putting in any effort whatsoever, you’ll probably be in the same situation as if you have to pay for everything.

I think that everyone who works hard, and makes a decent living wage, should really start out with a side business.

Pay yourself first, for one thing, is one of the most common ones. A good example of this type of business is the home business.
